Angiographic findings in Buerger¢¥s disease


Abstract
In Buerger¢¥s disease, angiography is very important study for differental diagnosis from other vascular diseases and for surgical managment. At department of radiology, National Medical Center, angiographic findings are analized in 26 cases of Buerger¢¥s diseases underwent angiography from April 1975 to June 1980.
1. All 26 cases are male and 23 cases (88%) have smoking history.
2. Age distribution of onset of symptom was 16-54 year-old and 18 cases (70%) were in 3rd and 4th decades.
3. Involvement of single lower extremity was 12cases (4600), both lower extremities in 11 cases (4200), and upper ¢¥and lower extremities in 3 cases (12%).
4. Angiographic findings are mainly vascular occlusion and diffuse narrowing, and segmental involvement. 15 extremities were involved in femoropopliteal and tibial arteries, and 14 extremities in tibialarteries only, from 33 extremites in 26 cases.
5. Collaterals frequently had a corkscrew configuration proximally and a tree-root appearence distally. 6 cases had poorly developed collaterals.
6. Standing waves were infrequently demonstrated, in 3 cases.
